The Nigeria Police Force has announced the conviction of 21 foreign nationals linked to a cybercrime syndicate uncovered during a major raid in Abuja in November 2024.
In a statement released on Sunday, Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed that the convictions mark a significant milestone in the Police’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and safeguard national security.
The convictions stem from a coordinated operation carried out on November 3, 2024, in the Jahi area of Abuja. Acting on credible intelligence, Police operatives raided a building where 130 suspects were apprehended. Among them were 113 foreign nationals — primarily of Chinese and Malaysian descent — and 17 Nigerians.
Following detailed investigations, the suspects were arraigned in court on December 2, 2024. The prosecution, bolstered by digital forensic evidence and expert witness testimonies, led to the conviction of 21 foreign nationals on August 1, 2025. The Police, however, did not disclose the specific sentences handed down.
“The Nigeria Police Force, in its sustained fight against cyber-related crimes and in the protection of national security, has recorded a significant legal victory,” the statement read.
The arrested individuals were alleged to be part of a syndicate engaged in large-scale internet fraud, hacking, and other cyber offences with the potential to destabilize Nigeria’s economy and threaten national security.
Adejobi added that the prosecution of the remaining suspects is ongoing, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Justice.
