Mass Dissolution Sweeps Through Executive Council as Oyebanji Strategically Repositions
In a bold political move just months before the June 20, 2026 governorship election, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect — a sweeping decision that signals strategic repositioning ahead of his re-election bid.
The announcement came late Sunday via the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Habibat Adubiaro, who confirmed that all commissioners and special advisers were affected, except for a select few considered critical to the administration's continuity.
“All affected officials are directed to hand over to the most senior civil servants in their ministries, departments, and agencies,” Adubiaro stated.
However, in a calculated retention of key players, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, along with six other commissioners — covering Health, Education, Agriculture, Works, Trade & Investment — were exempted from the dissolution. Two special advisers and three director-generals also retain their roles.
Governor Oyebanji, who was sworn in on October 16, 2022, under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is gunning for a second term in 2026. His selective retention of high-performing officials appears aimed at sustaining policy momentum while opening space for new political alignments.
“The governor expresses his profound appreciation to the outgoing council members and wishes them well in their future endeavours,” Adubiaro added.
