Five women, including a pregnant woman, have died following the collapse of an illegal mining pit in Budu village, Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, leaving the community in a state of shock.
The victims, all from Budu and Panbi villages, were identified as Tani Abubakar, Farida Mustapha, Farida Sule, Khadijat Abdullahi, and Zainab Usman.
It was gathered that security operatives visited the scene, exhumed the victims, and rushed them to the General Hospital, Paiko, where they were confirmed dead on arrival.
A police source in the Paikoro Police Division confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters but declined to provide further details.
Meanwhile, Police Public Relations Officer of Niger State Command, Wasiu Abiodun, told SaharaReporters he needed time to verify the incident.
