A major breakthrough was recorded by security forces in Osun State on Saturday evening, as a notorious murder and kidnap suspect, Ayoola Samuel Awe, also known as "Bishop Awasere," was apprehended by operatives of the Amotekun Corps during a coordinated operation in Ilesa.
The suspect, who has been on the wanted list of multiple security agencies for months, was tracked to a hideout in the Isokun area of Ilesa at approximately 5:59 p.m. A fierce gun battle ensued as members of Awe’s gang attempted to resist arrest. However, the operatives, using tactical decoys and superior strategy, overpowered the suspects.
The multi-hour operation led to the arrest of Awe, aged 42, along with one of his close associates. During the raid, operatives recovered hard drugs and a cache of assorted charms believed to be used by the gang for spiritual fortification.
While some gang members managed to escape, security forces have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities say further updates will be provided as the case develops.
The arrest is seen as a significant stride in the fight against violent crime in Osun State.
