"I’ve Outgrown That Phase" – Shaffy Bello Reflects on Dating Younger Men

Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has opened up about her dating experiences and evolving relationship preferences, revealing that she once dated a younger man for fun but has since moved on from that phase of her life.

In a recent episode of the Dear Ife podcast, the 54-year-old actress shared that while younger men continue to message her on social media, she is no longer interested in that kind of relationship dynamic.

“Yes, men still slide into my DM. When you're over 50 and young men still reach out, it’s flattering,” she admitted. “But some of them come with very poor manners — things like ‘Hi dear’ — and it just feels disrespectful.”

Shaffy clarified that while she has nothing against age-gap relationships, it’s simply not something she’s looking for anymore. “I can’t date a younger man. There’s no need to. I’ve done it before, and it was fun at the time — but that season has passed. My priorities have changed,” she explained.

Looking ahead, Bello emphasized her current focus on deeper, more committed partnerships. “What I want now is different. I know for sure I want marriage — but not the conventional kind. I believe many Nigerians have a rigid view of marriage. Personally, I see it differently, and I’d rather leave it at that.”

Her candid reflections offer a glimpse into the personal growth and shifting values that come with age and experience, while also highlighting her openness to love — on her own terms.
