A marriage in northern Nigeria has ended abruptly after just three weeks, with the husband claiming he was misled about his wife’s physical appearance. According to reports, the man filed for divorce on the grounds that the jilbab — the full-body covering traditionally worn by Muslim women — had concealed the fact that his wife was not as “busty” as he had assumed before the marriage.
Family sources disclosed that the union, celebrated with much joy, quickly turned sour when the husband expressed disappointment over his wife’s body shape, insisting that he felt deceived. The matter has since stirred public debate on the cultural, religious, and personal issues surrounding marriage expectations, modesty, and divorce within the society.
Community elders have described the incident as “unfortunate,” urging young men and women to prioritize character and compatibility over physical appearance in their marital decisions.
