The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome killing of a 39-year-old pregnant woman, Mrs. Esther Enemo, in Temidire community, Egbejila Road, Ilorin, the state capital.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The statement read, "At about 0900hrs, a resident of the area, reported a suspected foul play within the residence of one Mr. Ekene Enemo. Following a swift police response, a team of detectives visited the scene, where the dismembered body of Mrs. Esther Enemo (aged 39 years) was discovered in the bush behind her residence. Further search led to the recovery of other parts of her body concealed in a sack and dumped beneath a nearby community bridge.
"A suspect, one Mr. Sylvester Enemo (aged 29 years), younger brother to the victim’s husband, who was seen leaving the house a few minutes before the discovery of the incident, has been arrested in connection with the crime. In contrast, the husband, Mr. Ekene Enemo, has also been contacted for necessary clarification."
Ejire-Adeyemi said that the remains of the deceased had been evacuated and deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) morgue for autopsy.
"The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter, assuring that the command would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice was served.
"While the command deeply regrets the unfortunate incident, we appeal to members of the public to remain calm and avoid speculations capable of inciting fear or tension within the community. The police are fully committed to unravelling the circumstances surrounding this incident and bringing all perpetrators to face the full weight of the law.
"The command also reassures citizens that adequate security strategies have been reinforced across the state to safeguard lives and property. We urge residents to continue to cooperate with the Police by providing useful information that can aid ongoing investigations and security operations.
"The Kwara State Police Command remains steadfast in its resolve to protect all residents and ensure peace prevails in our communities," Ejire-Adeyemi added.
Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that a pregnant woman was killed by suspected ritualists in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The victim, whose identity has not been confirmed, was said to have been killed on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Temidire, a rural community in Egbejila in Ilorin.
She was gruesomely murdered and dismembered in a manner that raised suspicions that she must have been killed for ritual purposes.
Eyewitnesses said her discovered body bears similarities to a recent ritual case in Ilorin involving a self-styled cleric, Abdulrahaman Bello, who killed Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student of Kwara College of Education, Ilorin, for body parts, according to Daily Post.
Residents of the area said the deceased, whose husband is a trader in agricultural chemicals and equipment in a border town in Kwara North, had been alone at home on Wednesday night.
A resident of the area was quoted as saying, “Eyewitnesses alleged that she was expecting a visitor that evening and was seen purchasing bottles of beer and plates of pepper soup before retreating indoors.“By dawn, suspicion arose when a neighbour reportedly confronted a man, believed to be her husband’s younger brother, leaving the house with a black nylon bag.
“The liquid trail, on closer inspection, turned out to be blood. Alarm was raised immediately, drawing other members of the community.
“Horrifically, body parts suspected to belong to the victim, including an arm, a leg and entrails, were later discovered in nearby bushes but the head was nowhere to be found.”
It was reported that the discovery of her body triggered panic in the community, with many suspecting ritual motives and inflaming long-standing ethnic suspicions among residents.
