Police in Ajdabiya have raided a residential house reportedly used for prostitution involving undocumented migrants, according to Migrant Rescue Watch.
The operation was carried out following an investigation and on the orders of the public prosecutor.
During the raid, authorities arrested 36 undocumented migrants, comprising 18 men and 18 women and children, of Chadian and Nigerian nationalities.
All those apprehended were transferred to the Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) to complete the required legal procedures.
“During raid 36 undocumented #migrants (18 men and 18 women and children) of Chadian and Nigerian nationalities were arrested. All transferred to DCIM for completion of legal procedures,” MRW said.
The DCIM is expected to oversee the migrants’ processing in accordance with Libyan immigration laws.
The DCIM is a government agency under the Ministry of the Interior responsible for managing and overseeing the detention of undocumented migrants within the country.
It operates numerous detention centres, some of which have been criticised for their conditions.
Reports from organisations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have documented instances of abuse, including overcrowding, lack of sanitation, forced labor, and physical mistreatment of detainees.
The DCIM often manages these centres in collaboration with various security forces and, at times, armed groups.
In 2024, it was reported that the DCIM was operating at least 30 official detention centers for migrants, with children being arbitrarily detained in 11 of these facilities.
