Nigerian Army Confirms Minor Explosion at Ilese Barracks, Ogun State


The Nigerian Army has confirmed a minor explosion followed by a fire outbreak at the Ilese Barracks in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, during the early hours of Thursday, August 14, 2025.

According to a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the incident occurred within a storage facility belonging to the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) Squadron.

Prompt response from army personnel and the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service ensured the fire was swiftly brought under control. No casualties or injuries were reported.

A detailed investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion and prevent future occurrences. A full assessment is also underway to evaluate the extent of material damage.

"The Nigerian Army remains committed to the safety of its personnel and neighbouring communities," said Lt. Col. Anele. Residents in Ilese and surrounding areas have been urged to remain calm and continue their normal activities.
