Osun State clocks 34 years since its creation, and as I joined the celebration of this remarkable milestone, it is important to state clearly that this reflection is not politically motivated. Rather, it is a sincere celebration of our beloved state, her journey so far, and a call to collective action for an even brighter future.
A Journey Built on Sacrifices Since its creation in 1991, Osun State has been blessed with a series of leaders, both civilian and military with each contributing their quota to the growth and development of the state.
From infrastructure projects to educational reforms, from agricultural initiatives to health care improvements, every administration has left behind legacies, no matter how small.
While these leaders may have had their flaws, shortcomings, and political differences, the truth remains that they all made sacrifices to serve the state in their own way. For this, we must give credit where it is due and appreciate their efforts in laying the foundation upon which we continue to build.
The current administration is equally working to move the state forward, and I acknowledge their efforts. However, there is always room for improvement.
Development is not a destination but a continuous journey, one that requires adaptability, foresight, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of the people.
I encourage the government to deepen its focus on policies that will attract investment, create jobs, and ensure sustainable economic growth.
Incentives for investors, infrastructure development, and transparent governance are critical to making Osun a competitive and prosperous state.
A Call to our People
Governance alone cannot transform Osun State; citizens have a significant role to play. As indigenes of Osun, whether we reside within the state, across Nigeria, or abroad, we must strive to be good ambassadors of our homeland.
Our individual and collective action matters. Let us champion initiatives that will position Osun among the best-performing states in Nigeria.
Let us think beyond politics and personal interests, focusing instead on how we can contribute to the state’s growth.
If we harness our human and natural resources, the opportunities are limitless.
Unlocking Our Economic Potential Osun State is richly endowed with resources that can drive industrial and economic transformation.
Agriculture remains a backbone of our economy, with vast fertile land suitable for diverse crops.
Mining presents another untapped goldmine, literally and figuratively, with Osun being one of the states in Nigeria blessed with mineral resources.
By strategically investing in industries, agriculture, and mining, we can create thousands of jobs, attract local and foreign investors, and significantly boost the state’s economy.
It is imperative that the government formulates investor-friendly policies while ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of these sectors.
Looking Ahead with Hope
As Osun turns 34, we celebrate not just the years gone by but the promise of what lies ahead. The story of our state is one of resilience, perseverance, and potential. With committed leadership, active citizen participation, and strategic investments, Osun can become a model state in Nigeria.
Let us, therefore, renew our dedication to building a state we can all be proud of, a state where opportunity abounds, where the dreams of our youth can flourish, and where future generations can thrive.
Happy 34th Anniversary, Osun State. May her light continue to shine brighter with each passing year.
