In a major move to boost agricultural productivity and reaffirm his administration’s commitment to food security, Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke of Osun State on Thursday commissioned the new Osun State Farmers' House and flagged off the distribution of farm inputs to over 300 rice farmers in Oke-Baale, Osogbo.
The event, held under the theme "Great Farmers, Great Nation! No Farmer, No Food!", brought together key stakeholders in the agriculture sector, including members of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), local cooperatives, and rural development partners.
In his address, Governor Adeleke described the commissioning as a "historic moment" in the state’s journey toward agricultural transformation. He highlighted agriculture as the backbone of Osun’s economy and a central pillar in his five-point development agenda.
“Thousands of our people depend on agriculture daily for survival and prosperity,” the governor said. “That’s why our administration continues to invest in agro-industrial transformation — empowering our people and unlocking the full economic potential of our state.”
The newly commissioned Farmers' House will serve as the operational headquarters for AFAN in Osun State, providing a centralized platform for farmer coordination, training, and government engagement.
Governor Adeleke also announced that over 300 rice farmers would receive free paddy rice seeds to enhance production, describing the distribution as part of broader efforts to make farming more viable and profitable across the state.
Since taking office, the governor said his administration has rolled out a series of impactful interventions, including the distribution of livestock, fertilisers, cassava stems, vegetable seeds, and agrochemicals.
