On October 10, 2025, Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo state, launched an investigation into a piece of land that a 17-year-old kid in the state is suspected of having bought. A 17-year-old is not capable of owning 14,000 hectares of land in his name, according to Governor Okpebholo, who was astounded by the teenager's land holdings and ordered an inquiry team to investigate into the origin of the land acquisition and its ownership certificate.
Since the order was issued, there has been discussion and controversy among Nigerians who oppose the person or group that sold a teenager such a huge amount of land. Others, however, are accusing the governor of taking advantage of the situation to postpone signing the C of O.
According to the governor's instruction, which was issued in the midst of land grabbing and money laundering, "A 17-year-old boy purchased 14,000 hectares of land and paid in full; he must tell us the source of his income." The Certificate of Occupancy signing will be postponed until the probing team has completed their inquiry.
