Speaking about a recent encounter with actress Wumi Toriola, filmmaker Saheed Esu shared his side of the story regarding a misunderstanding that occurred during a film shoot.
"Upon her arrival, I respectfully greeted her and reminded her to prepare, as we were all waiting for her. She had originally been scheduled to work on another production, but arrangements had been made for her to join ours instead — something I later sensed she wasn’t entirely comfortable with.
We successfully completed the first scene and were preparing for the second, which was to be shot inside a hairdresser's shop. While my team went to retrieve her costume from the car, I stepped out briefly. When I returned, she was still seated. I kindly reminded her it was time to change, and she asked for lunch money. I gave her ₦5,000 and stepped out again.
However, upon returning, I noticed she still hadn’t changed. I respectfully urged her again, but at that point, she became upset, questioning my authority and accusing me of being unprofessional. She made several harsh remarks about my work and my career. Despite this, I tried to remain calm and explained that the film revolved around her character, and that any delays could affect the entire production.
Rather than deescalate, the situation worsened as she continued making offensive comments. My manager and some of my students, who overheard the conversation, came out and confronted her. Unfortunately, the incident escalated — her car window was broken during the commotion, and a lady reportedly pushed her. Eventually, she got into her car and drove off, leaving her driver behind."
