According to a report by the Punch on Thursday, December 11, 2025, a prominent political leader in Osun State has firmly declared his intention to remain with the Peoples Democratic Party amidst a period of significant defections. Former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola publicly stated that he will not join the current state governor, Ademola Adeleke, in defecting to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Oyinlola made his position clear during the second matriculation ceremony of the Alolade Oyinlola College of Health Sciences and Information Technology in Okuku. In his address, he provided a personal and unequivocal explanation for his decision to stay with the PDP. He framed his stance around his experience and stage of life, stating, "At my age, I can’t be pushed around. I’m gradually leaving active politics." He added that he would only abandon the party if it ceased to exist entirely, reinforcing his commitment.
The former governor extended his commentary beyond his personal choice to issue a direct political accusation. He alleged that President Bola Tinubu is the unseen force deliberately instigating and perpetuating the internal crises within the PDP. According to Oyinlola, the President views a strong opposition party as a major obstacle to his ambition for a second term in 2027 and is actively working to ensure the PDP remains divided and weakened.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the Presidency and the spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages sent to them were not returned.
During the academic ceremony, Oyinlola, who is the proprietor of the institution, also addressed the newly admitted students, encouraging them to pursue their studies with diligence and to uphold the values of integrity and leadership essential for their future professions in health sciences and information technology.
