Hon. Mansur Tijani Mourns the Passing of Prof. AbdGaffar Siyan Oyeweso

On behalf of myself, Hon. Mansur Oladimeji Tijani (MOTIJ), and the good people of Ede North Local Government, I mourn the passing of Prof. AbdGaffar Siyan Oyeweso, Pro-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University and Provost, Post-Graduate College, Osun State University. His death at 64 is a painful loss to Osun State, the academic community, and our nation at large.

Prof. Oyeweso was a scholar of rare depth and clarity. He carried knowledge with humility and led with quiet discipline. In lecture halls, council chambers and public conversations, he remained a voice of reason, balance and history-guided wisdom. His contributions to historical studies and university administration reflected a life devoted to service, truth, and intellectual excellence.

As Pro-Chancellor and Provost, he brought order, stability, and vision to institutions entrusted to his care. He believed in strong systems, merit, and the power of education to reform society. Many who passed through his tutelage and leadership stand today as proof of his impact.

To us in Ede and across Osun, he was more than an administrator; he was a son of the soil who carried our identity with pride and discipline. He showed that one could rise in excellence without losing touch with home, culture, or community.

In this moment of grief, we extend heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, students, and the entire academic fraternity. May they find strength in the legacy he left behind, a legacy written in minds he shaped and institutions he strengthened.

Prof. Oyeweso may have departed, but his work remains, and his name will endure.

May Almighty Allah grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and give comfort to all he has left behind. A true intellectual has taken his final bow.
