There was palpable tension in parts of Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State on Thursday, December 18, 2025, following a violent clash linked to an ongoing land dispute involving the council chairman, Hon. Prince Idris Balogun, popularly known as Oluomo Kafata, and the Onisheri of Isheri-Olofin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ibrahim Olasunkanmi Lawal Bello Olanwa I, Olofin V, Aremo Olofin Ogunfunminire.
The crisis reportedly stemmed from allegations by the monarch that the council chairman was planning to forcefully take over a parcel of land said not to belong to him. Residents said the long-simmering dispute took a dangerous turn on Thursday when aides of the council chairman and members of the traditional ruler’s camp confronted each other at the disputed land.
Eyewitnesses told Lagos Reporters that the confrontation quickly escalated, throwing the entire area into fear and uncertainty as tensions rose among residents and business owners.
The situation, however, was brought under control following the timely intervention of operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, who arrived at the scene to restore peace and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
During the operation, several suspected land grabbers were arrested, including aides of the council chairman. Those reportedly taken into custody include Tega Jibraham, said to be the Chief of Staff to the chairman, Mr. Tunde Ojosipe, also known as Eleshin, and other individuals whose identities are yet to be fully confirmed.
The arrests sparked jubilation among residents of the area, who praised the police for their swift response and called for a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure justice and lasting peace.
As of press time, the police had not issued an official statement on the arrests, while efforts to reach the Egbe-Idimu LCDA chairman for comments were unsuccessful.
