A prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, healthcare Consultant, Intellectual and Industrialist, Prof. Siji Olamiju, popularly known as Akol, has described the death of the Elder statesman and Ada-born industrialist, Engr. Tunde Ponnle, as a rude shock and an irreparable loss to Nigeria.
Engr. Ponnle, who was the Founder and Chairman of MICON GOF & Resorts and MICON WIRES & CABLES passed peacefully on early hours of yesterday Sunday 14th December,, 2025, leaving behind remarkable legacies of entrepreneurship, community service, and dedication to societal development.
In a condolence message, Prof. Olamiju said the demise of Baba Tunde Ponnle represents a great loss not only to Osun State and Boripe Local Government but also to Ada town, where the late industrialist demonstrated uncommon love and commitment to the growth of his community.
In a statement released through his media Aide, Mr Adebayo Temitope and made available to the press in Osogbo Osun State, Olamiju said, Engr. Ponnle was a well-respected elder statesman who contributed immensely to thecsicio-economic development of the country through his business initiatives and mentorship of younger generations of whom I am one. He noted that the vacuum created by his death would be very difficult to fill.
Prof. Olamiju recalled his last encounter with the late industrialist during the 86th birthday celebration of former Osun State Governor and the National Leader of APC, Chief Bisi Akande, held at his country home in Ila-Orangun.
"I had the privilege of serving Baba Ponnle food alongside many other distinguished Leaders who gathered to celebrate our indefatigable Leader, Chief Bisi Akande. That moment remains memorable,” he said.
While acknowledging that death is inevitable, Prof. Olamiju expressed his heartfelt condolences to the wife, former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Chief Mrs. Grace Ponnle, the children, the entire Ponnle Dynasty in Ada, business associates and Mentees of the deceased.
He prayed that Almighty God would grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss of a great icon and grant the soul of Baba Engr. Tunde Ponnle eternal rest.
