His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeola Adekinle (Ajagungbade Okunola II), the Awara of Iwara Kingdom, has assumed his role as Chairman, Atakunmosa East Chieftaincy Committee under the Ijesa South Traditional Council, Osun State.
Speaking shortly after assuming office, the new Chairman commended all royal fathers in Atakunmosa East for their support. He appealed for sustained unity and cooperation among traditional rulers to further advance Atakunmosa East Traditional Council.
Oba Adekinle, in his address, pledged to deliver the long-awaited sweeping reforms needed to strengthen chieftaincy administration in Atakunmosa East Local Government. According to him, his primary mission is to restore dignity and honour to the traditional institution, promote unity among communities, and drive infrastructural and socio-economic development across Atakunmosa East and Ijesaland.
To achieve these goals, the Chairman announced plans for immediate review and restructuring of chieftaincy administration, ensuring it aligns with modern realities and addresses existing irregularities. He emphasized the need for clear, merit-based guidelines in the selection and appointment of minor chieftaincies, insisting that integrity and community service must be the foundation.
One of his key priorities is the establishment of a new Sub-Committee on Ethics and Code of Conduct to guide traditional rulers, prevent administrative missteps, and correct anomalies when necessary. The committee, which will work under his supervision, will develop a comprehensive code of conduct, strengthen accountability, and promote good traditional governance. The code will address issues such as conflict of interest, abuse of authority, and breaches of traditional norms.
Oba Adekinle also vowed to enhance transparency in resource management and improve collaboration with government agencies, NGOs, and development partners to attract investments and meaningful projects to the region.
The Chairman listed the committee’s key initiatives as follows:
• Vigorous pursuit of developmental projects and community-oriented initiatives
• Strengthening community safety and security
• Establishing and empowering the Ethics & Code of Conduct Sub-Committee
• Reviewing and improving minor chieftaincy appointment processes
• Promoting unity, transparency, and accountability
• Deepening partnerships with NGOs and government agencies at all levels
• Empowering youths and women across communities
He further promised to serve as “a listening ear, a helping hand, and a champion of justice and fairness,” pledging peaceful conflict resolution and the promotion of traditional education to preserve cultural heritage.
The royal father called on all monarchs in the local government to work together in preserving the sanctity of the traditional institutions and build a united, prosperous Atakunmosa East. “As your Chairman, I am committed to serving with integrity, wisdom, and dedication,” he affirmed.
He reiterated his vision of a united, progressive, and dignified Atakunmosa East, where tradition and development go hand in hand.
