The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, has officially inaugurated the Governing Board of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) in Abuja, marking a major milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and accountability within Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Oyetola described the event as a significant step toward institutional consolidation and effective oversight in the Marine and Blue Economy sector. He emphasized that the inauguration of the Governing Board reflects the Federal Government’s resolve to entrench transparency, efficiency, and strategic leadership in key national institutions.
The Minister noted that the constitution of the NSC Governing Board, duly approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. According to him, the move underscores the President’s commitment to good governance, institutional effectiveness, and the repositioning of the maritime sector as a critical driver of economic growth, trade facilitation, and national development.
One of the newly inaugurated members of the Board, Hon. Mrs. Funmilayo Olasehinde, expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving her appointment, describing it as a great honour and privilege to serve the nation in such a strategic capacity. She also appreciated the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, for facilitating the process that culminated in her appointment.
Hon. Olasehinde assured the government and stakeholders that she would not take the confidence reposed in her for granted, pledging to contribute her best toward the realization of the Council’s mandate and the broader objectives of the Marine and Blue Economy sector.
She further extended her appreciation to the leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State for their unwavering support and encouragement. In the same vein, she called on party members to remain united and work diligently with the party leadership to ensure the success of the APC governorship flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, in the forthcoming August 8 governorship election in Osun State.
The inauguration of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council Governing Board is widely seen as a strategic step toward enhancing regulatory effectiveness, promoting stakeholder confidence, and advancing Nigeria’s maritime and trade competitiveness under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
