A quiet community in Adamawa State has been overwhelmed with shock and mourning following the draconic murder of a man allegedly by his own sons, an incident that has generated outrage and renewed conversations about domestic violence and family conflict in Nigeria.
According to a report by TVC News Nigeria, the Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one of two brothers accused of murdering their biological father, Mr. ThankGod, in the Gwe-da-Mallam community, located in the Numan Local Government Area. The tragic incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of January 3, 2026.
Gwe-da-Mallam, once known for its calm and close-knit lifestyle, was thrown into confusion after reports emerged that two brothers, identified as David and Joshua, allegedly strangled their father during a family dispute whose full details are yet to be made public.
When a TVC News Nigeria crew visited the area, residents described an atmosphere filled with pain, disbelief, and grief.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased returned home that evening as usual and was heard praying and singing praises before going to bed — a routine that made the incident even more disturbing to neighbors.
A neighbor narrated how distress signals were raised around 1:30 a.m. after a young girl alerted her family that their neighbor was in danger.
“We rushed to his house, but the door was locked. By the time we forced it open with other neighbors, the children had already escaped through the back fence,” the witness said.
Inside the living room, Mr. ThankGod was found lifeless on the floor. The suspects reportedly fled the area immediately after the act, prompting residents to alert local authorities.

The victim’s body was first taken to the Numan Divisional Police Headquarters before being taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further examination.
While the Divisional Police Officer declined to comment, citing lack of authorization, the Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer later confirmed key developments in the case.
According to the police, intelligence reports revealed that the suspects were the deceased’s biological children. Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, investigations were intensified, leading to the arrest of one suspect at his hideout in Jalingo, Taraba State.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the second suspect, who is still at large.
Police further disclosed that preliminary investigations suggest the killing may be connected to a long-standing family dispute. The conflict had earlier resulted in the arrest of the deceased’s wife and daughter, who were later released.
It was also gathered that the two brothers reside in Lagos and were invited to Adamawa by their sister shortly after her release from police custody. The exact motive behind the killing, however, remains unclear.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to justice, the police warned against taking the law into one’s hands.
“We have a responsibility to protect lives and property. Anyone who thinks they can commit a crime and escape will be found, arrested, and made to face the full weight of the law,” the police spokesperson stated.
