According to a report by The Nation Nigeria on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2025, a woman has been exposed and apprehended in Osun State after allegedly using falsified bank transfer alerts to defraud shop owners on two different occasions, an incident that has since sparked widespread discussion on social media.
Details of the incident emerged on Thursday, January 15, 2026, through a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by The Nation Nigeria, where an eyewitness accounts outlined how the suspect allegedly carried out the scam. According to the post, the woman first struck in November 2025, when she visited a retail shop in Osun State and selected goods valued at approximately ₦350,000. After completing her shopping, she reportedly presented what appeared to be a successful bank transfer alert as proof of payment. Trusting the alert, the shop owner released the goods, only to later discover that no money had been credited to the account.
Rather than disappearing completely, the suspect allegedly returned weeks later in what observers described as a daring move. This time, she reportedly visited another shop belonging to the same family, located elsewhere in the state. Unaware that the businesses were connected, she again selected items for purchase and attempted to use the same method by showing a fake transfer notification, allegedly believing she would not be recognised.
However, the second attempt did not go as planned. Shop attendants reportedly became suspicious and identified similarities between the woman and the earlier incident. Upon closer scrutiny, she was recognised as the same person who had carried out the previous scam. The shop owners confronted her and raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby traders and passersby.
A video circulating online shows the woman surrounded by people at the scene as arguments and accusations fly, although the footage does not clearly show what happened afterward. It remains unclear whether law enforcement authorities were immediately involved or if the matter was later reported to the police.
