Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reportedly relieved Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie of his duties as Chief of Staff to the Government House, Port Harcourt, in a significant development amid the ongoing political dynamics in the state.
Ehie, a key ally of Governor Fubara and former factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, was appointed to the position in early 2024 following his resignation from the legislature. His tenure as Chief of Staff positioned him as one of the governor's closest aides during the prolonged rift with former Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Sources indicate that the decision to drop Ehie follows sustained pressure from quarters aligned with Wike's political camp. Loyalists of the FCT Minister have repeatedly called for Ehie's removal, arguing that key positions in the state government should be reserved exclusively for supporters of Wike to reflect broader reconciliation efforts or power-sharing arrangements.
Insiders suggest that Governor Fubara is now preparing to appoint a new Chief of Staff believed to be a loyalist associated with Wike's network, in what could be interpreted as a concession aimed at de-escalating tensions or fulfilling aspects of informal political understandings.
