A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osogbo, Alhaji Suliaman Afariogun, has firmly denied speculations suggesting he is planning to defect to the Accord Party, declaring that his political loyalty remains with the APC.
Speaking during a recent interview, the elder statesman made it clear that he has no intention of leaving the APC.
“I am in APC and I will always remain in APC, except the party changes its name,” he stated, in what appeared to be a direct response to swirling rumours within local political circles.
Addressing reports linking his family to a possible shift in allegiance, Afariogun clarified that his children are free to pursue their own political paths.
According to him, he neither directed nor influenced their decision to join another party.
“I did not send any of my sons on an errand to join any political party. They have the right to choose where they belong.
When they informed me of their intention to join the Accord Party, I gave them my blessing. But they are not in a position to determine my political journey,” he said.
The APC stalwart emphasized that while he respects his children’s choices, his own political direction remains firmly under his control.
“If anything, I can influence them not the other way round,” he added.
Reaffirming his commitment to the APC ahead of forthcoming political contests, Afariogun pledged to work tirelessly for the success of the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
He also dismissed claims of political isolation, noting that he maintains cordial relationships across the party.
He described figures such as Lekan Badmus, Teslim Igbalaye, and Muniru Raji as close associates who frequently visit him, alongside other APC leaders.
His latest comments appear aimed at setting the record straight and reaffirming that he and his supporters remain with the APC and Bola Oyebamiji
