The President Worldwide of the Brave Women Progressive Association, Evang. Matilda Farinde, has extended a gesture of compassion and support to inmates at the Ile-Ife Correctional Custodial Centre through the donation of food items and soft drinks, while also offering words of encouragement and spiritual guidance.
The outreach programme, which took place on Wednesday, was part of the association’s humanitarian efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable members of society and promoting rehabilitation within correctional facilities.
Speaking during the visit, Evang. Farinde encouraged the inmates to reflect on their lives, repent from wrongdoing, and seek forgiveness from God Almighty. She emphasized the importance of spiritual renewal and personal transformation as a pathway to a better future.
She urged the inmates to take the opportunity of their stay in the correctional facility to rebuild their character and focus on positive change.
According to her, genuine repentance and determination to live responsibly after release will help them reintegrate successfully into society.
“As individuals, we all make mistakes, but what matters most is the willingness to change,” she said. “This period should be used for reflection, repentance, and personal growth. When you leave here, do not return to the crimes that brought you to this place.”
Beyond the donation of food and drinks, the association also announced its willingness to support inmates facing legal and financial challenges. Evang. Farinde called on inmates who have outstanding fines preventing their release to indicate their cases, assuring them that the association would work with its legal team and members to assist in settling such fines where possible.
She further disclosed that inmates without legal representation during their trials would also receive support from the association’s legal team, who are prepared to provide necessary legal assistance to ensure fair representation.
The leadership of the correctional facility expressed gratitude to the Brave Women Progressive Association for the generous donation and the concern shown towards the welfare and rehabilitation of the inmates.
The Controller of the Correctional Service at the Ile-Ife Custodial Centre commended the association for its humanitarian gesture, noting that such acts of kindness and encouragement play a significant role in boosting the morale of inmates and supporting the correctional system’s goal of rehabilitation and reintegration.
He described the visit as timely and impactful, adding that partnerships between civil society organizations and correctional institutions are essential in creating opportunities for inmates to rebuild their lives.
