Immigration Attaché in Spain, ACI Adigun, Enlightens Nigerians on the Importance of the New Passport System



The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Attaché to Spain, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACI) Ayotunde Adigun, on Wednesday delivered an informative webinar lecture to members of the Nigerian community in Spain, focusing on the significance and benefits of the newly introduced passport processing system by the Nigeria Immigration Service.


The virtual session, attended by several Nigerians residing across Spain, was titled “NIS Reform and Benefits to Nigerian Diasporans.” During the lecture, ACI Adigun provided a detailed overview of the ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Immigration Service, emphasizing the modernization of passport application, renewal, and collection processes aimed at improving service delivery for Nigerians both at home and abroad.


In his presentation, ACI Adigun explained that the new passport system is part of broader reforms designed to enhance efficiency, transparency, and convenience for Nigerians in the diaspora. He noted that the digitization of several procedures now allows applicants to complete significant parts of the process online, thereby reducing bureaucratic delays, minimizing physical visits, and improving turnaround time for passport issuance and renewal.


According to him, the reforms are intended to address long-standing challenges experienced by Nigerians abroad when applying for travel documents. He stressed that the improved system ensures a more seamless process for passport renewal and collection, particularly for Nigerians living in Spain and other parts of Europe.

He also lecture those who came to the embassy for the data capturing.



ACI Adigun also encouraged members of the Nigerian community to familiarize themselves with the updated procedures and utilize the digital platforms provided by the Nigeria Immigration Service. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Service to continually improve its operations and maintain a high standard of service delivery for Nigerians worldwide.


Speaking with journalists from Madrid, Spain, Ambassador Adeayo Tella, Secretary General and APC Diaspora Committee Chairman and Spain Coordinator Relax Tinubu is Fixing Nigeria (RTIFN), commended the efforts of ACI Adigun in transforming the passport renewal and collection process for Nigerians living in Spain. He noted that the improvements have significantly eased the difficulties previously encountered by members of the diaspora when seeking passport services.



Ambassador Tella also praised the leadership and policy direction of the Minister of Interior, Barrister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, and the President of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for initiating reforms that are yielding tangible benefits for Nigerians abroad.


He emphasized that the current reforms align with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to strengthen institutions, improve public service delivery, and enhance the relationship between Nigeria and its citizens in the diaspora.



According to him, Nigerians living outside the country are already experiencing the positive impact of these initiatives, particularly in the area of passport processing and immigration services.


The webinar concluded with an interactive session where participants asked questions and received clarifications regarding the new passport system and other immigration-related services available to Nigerians residing in Spain.


The Nigeria Immigration Service continues to reiterate its commitment to providing efficient, transparent, and accessible services to Nigerians across the globe as part of its broader reform agenda.
