The Federal High Court sitting in Akure has sentenced Prince Ogundeji Abiodun and Mrs. Ayodele Ogundeji to 14 years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine for operating an illegal baby factory in Ondo State.
Delivering judgment, the court found the couple guilty of running the unlawful operation, describing their activities as a grave violation of human rights and existing anti-trafficking laws.
In addition to the prison term, the court ordered the forfeiture of eight vehicles, two bungalows, and ₦4 million recovered during investigations to the Federal Government through the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The court also awarded ₦1 million each to three identified victims as restitution.
Reacting to the judgment, NAPTIP described the ruling as a “landmark conviction” and a significant milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against human trafficking. The agency said the verdict sends a strong warning to individuals involved in child trafficking and related crimes.
Officials added that the conviction underscores the judiciary’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and dismantling trafficking networks across the country.
