US President, Donald Trump has launched a blistering attack on his predecessors, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, blaming them for the current escalation of hostilities between Iran and the US-Israeli alliance.
Writing on his Truth Social platform on Monday evening, Trump criticized the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, JCPOA, as a catastrophic error that brought the world to the brink of a nuclear-armed Tehran.
He insisted that his unilateral decision to withdraw from the pact in 2018 was the only thing preventing that outcome.
“If I didn’t terminate Obama’s horrendous Iran Nuclear Deal (JCPOA), Iran would have had a Nuclear Weapon three years ago,” Trump said.
Trump also described the agreement, a signature foreign policy achievement of the Obama administration, as “the most dangerous transaction we have ever entered into.”
He added, “Had it been allowed to stand, the World would be an entirely different place right now.
“You can blame Barack Hussein Obama and Sleepy Joe Biden.”
Meanwhile, prior to the US withdrawal in 2018, the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, — the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog — repeatedly verified that Iran was in full compliance with the JCPOA’s strict limits on its uranium enrichment program.
It was only after Trump abandoned the deal and reimposed crippling sanctions that Iran began progressively breaching those very limits, significantly accelerating its nuclear activities in a move widely seen as an attempt to gain leverage.
