A Nigerian mother has recounted a shocking and deeply confusing experience after being informed by her son’s boarding school that he had allegedly died two years ago—despite her continued contact with him during that period.
The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, said she visited the school where her son, Obadiah, had been enrolled for three years. During the visit, school authorities reportedly informed her that her son was no longer a student and had been declared dead following an incident that occurred two years earlier.
According to the mother, the revelation came as a complete shock. She insisted that her son had been returning home during school holidays, appearing healthy and showing no signs of illness or distress. She also claimed he regularly brought home academic results, further reinforcing her belief that he was still an active student.
“I was confused and angry,” she said. “If my son truly died, why was I not informed? What kind of school fails to notify parents of such a tragedy?”
After leaving the school premises, the mother said she contacted her son by phone. He reportedly answered, providing her with initial relief. However, when she mentioned the school’s claim about his death, the call abruptly ended. Subsequent attempts to reach him were unsuccessful, and she later discovered she had been blocked on multiple messaging platforms.
The situation further unsettled the family. The woman’s younger son, who had interacted with Obadiah during previous holidays, expressed fear and confusion, questioning how his brother could have been present if he had truly died years earlier.
Determined to get answers, the mother returned to the school and demanded further explanation, including proof of her son’s death or burial. In response, a teacher identified as Mr. Benson reportedly explained that Obadiah had been involved in a tragic road accident during a mid-term break two years prior.
The teacher claimed that the vehicle Obadiah was traveling in plunged into a river and that no bodies were ever recovered. According to him, the school had been uncertain about how to communicate the incident to the family due to the lack of confirmation and remains.
