Tensions are rising in Osun East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections after a pointed rebuttal from Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi’s camp against APC aspirant Thomas Ogungbangbe.
At a recent All Progressives Congress (APC) women leaders' rally in Ijebu-Jesa, Ogungbangbe reportedly declared himself the "incoming Senator," claiming in Yoruba: "Emi ni incoming Senator, Babawa Fadahunsi ti gbelemi lọwọ" – translating to "Senator Fadahunsi has handed over to me."
In a swift press release Saturday, Omole Oluwasegun Omo-Osodi, Head of Media and Public Enlightenment for the Distinguished Senator Fadahunsi OFR, dismissed the statement as "careless" and false. "There is never a time our Principal... called or met Mr. Thomas Ogungbangbe to discuss about his ambition," the release stated.
Fadahunsi, who earned the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), declared his re-election bid in July 2025. His team demanded Ogungbangbe issue a public apology and cease using the senator's name for "cheap popularity."
The release praised Osun East women leaders, led by Chief Mrs. Bunmi Aluko, for a successful rally and reaffirmed commitment to the "AMBO/Kayode project" to secure APC victories on August 15.
"Distinguished Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi OFR is running again and by God's grace will return to the Senate to represent Osun East," it concluded.
