Students, Teachers Escape Death as School Building Collapses in Lagos


Students and teachers narrowly escaped death on Monday after a four-storey building housing a school collapsed in the Ogba area of Lagos State shortly after it was evacuated.

The incident occurred at about noon at No. 11 Adudatu Street, behind County Hospital in the Agida area of Ogba. The building housed Yemco Nursery, Primary and Comprehensive College.

According to eyewitnesses, the structure caved in less than three minutes after students and members of staff were hurriedly evacuated from the premises.

Sources said the evacuation was carried out following concerns about the stability of the building, a move that ultimately prevented what could have been a tragic loss of lives.

Residents of the area who witnessed the incident expressed shock at the sudden collapse of the building, noting that the timely evacuation of the students and teachers averted a major disaster.

Emergency responders were reportedly alerted after the collapse, while authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the incident.

No casualties were reported as of the time of filing this report.
