The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA), Comrade Abioye Tosin Lawrence, has declared a new era of transformation, unity, and professional advancement for digital media practitioners in Osun State.
Speaking during his inauguration, Lawrence described the moment as “not just a ceremony, but a moment of destiny,” emphasizing that his leadership would be anchored on collective growth, responsibility, and unwavering commitment to truth.
“I give all glory to God Almighty, whose grace and guidance have brought us to this defining moment in our collective journey,” he said.
Addressing members, stakeholders, and dignitaries, the new chairman expressed deep appreciation for the trust reposed in him, noting that the mandate reflects the shared resilience and determination of every member of the association.
“This mandate is not mine alone; it belongs to all of us, to every publisher who refused to give up, to every voice that chose courage over silence, and to every dream that refused to die,” Lawrence stated.
A Movement Beyond an Association
Lawrence described OOPA as more than a professional body, calling it “a movement built on discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to truth.”
He highlighted the journey of many members who started with limited resources but sustained their passion through belief and dedication, noting that the association now plays a significant role in shaping conversations beyond Osun State.
“Today, our collective voice echoes far beyond Osun. We are contributing to national discourse and amplifying voices across the global media landscape,” he added.
Launch of Mobility & Capacity Building Initiative
A major highlight of the inauguration was the announcement of the OOPA Mobility & Capacity Building Initiative, a strategic project aimed at improving the operational effectiveness and welfare of members.
According to Lawrence, the initiative will focus on enhancing mobility for journalists, providing access to modern tools, and equipping members with advanced digital media skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving industry.
“This is not just a project; it is a commitment to progress, excellence, and immediate action,” he declared.
He further revealed that the project committee would be unveiled immediately, with Boluwatife Adedokun of Herbinger News set to lead the team alongside other members.
Commitment to Welfare and Professional Growth
The chairman underscored the need to prioritize the welfare of media practitioners who often operate under challenging conditions, moving from one assignment to another at personal cost.
“We draw a line today. No longer will we operate below our capacity, and no longer will those who labour tirelessly to inform society be overlooked,” he said.
Lawrence also called for stronger collaboration with stakeholders, partners, and supporters within and beyond Osun State, stressing that institutional growth requires collective effort.
Building on Legacy, Driving the Future
He commended the outgoing leadership led by Comrade Mukhtar Ajelogbon for laying a solid foundation and pledged to build on their achievements.
“We will not promise perfection, but we promise dedication. We will not promise ease, but we promise commitment. And we will not stand silent, we will lead, we will act, and we will serve,” he affirmed.
