The Chairman of Osogbo Local Government in Osun State, Hon. Saheed Onibonokuta, on Saturday commended President Bola Tinubu for granting autonomy as grading works on township roads in Osogbo commenced.
Onibonokuta described the intervention as a timely boost to infrastructure and grassroots development in the state capital.
He noted that the exercise would cover six wards across the local government including Ward 1, 4, 5, 8,11 and 14, adding that over 30 communities will benefit from the gesture.
The council highlighted that Irepodun, Ajenisua, Osara, Olosan, Okonfo, Africa Area, Egbeda, Surulere, Lawole, Isale Ijebu, Eyin Bovas, Temidire, Oketunji Street in Alekuwodo, Zone 8 Oke-Arungbo, Rave FM, Akede, Isale Alfa, Constain, Ijetu, Idi-Oro, Ayegbami, Osunlepo, Ireakari, Ifesowapo, Koledowo, Jagun Osunlepo, Orisunbare, Ogidan, Susi areas, Arogunmosa, Gaa Fulani, Ayegun, Tanishi, Fiwasaye, Iludun and Kasmo communities would benefit.
He said that residents in some of the affected areas have welcomed the development, describing it as timely and impactful.
He said: “Tinubu granting local government financial autonomy made the intervention possible as council executives can identify people’s problems and solve them quickly without taking permission from the state government.
“The condition of the roads had long affected movement and economic activities within the communities, but our timely intervention has made it possible for us to do this.
‘’This intervention is part of our commitment to improving infrastructure at the grassroots and ensuring that our people enjoy better access within their communities.
“Our administration remains focused on practical projects that directly impact the daily lives of our people, especially in road accessibility. We urge residents to cooperate fully with our teams and take necessary precautions during the period of work.”
