Solomon Dalung Reveals Four Differences Between Buhari and Tinubu's Government

Former Minister of Youth and Sports and a stalwart of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Barrister Solomon Dalung, in an interview with a correspondent of The Nigerian Tribune, spoke on the prevailing political situation in the country, particularly the ADC’s protest against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its decision on the leadership of the party.

When he was asked about the difference between the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari and that of the current government, especially given that some members of his party served under Buhari while others are from different political backgrounds, he explained that the differences were clear.
He stated that the Buhari administration was able to execute major infrastructure projects, citing examples such as the Abuja–Makurdi road, the Second Niger Bridge, and significant railway development. He described this as the first major difference.
He further said that Buhari’s government left behind what he called a manageable debt profile, whereas the current administration, in just about two and a half years, had reportedly borrowed more than Nigeria had accumulated since independence in 1960.

He added as a third difference that, in his view, Buhari’s government did not suppress the opposition, arguing that political parties operated freely and that opposition activities were unhindered. In contrast, he alleged that under the current administration, political opposition is being undermined, claiming that bandits are sometimes used to attack political groups and take over their activities, with logistical and security support allegedly provided to enable such actions.
He maintained that such practices did not occur under Buhari’s administration and said governors were free to contest elections under their respective parties.
He also stated that procurement processes were properly followed under Buhari, with budgets presented to the National Assembly and procurement handled through the appropriate official channels.
He further said that in his view, the differences between the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari and that of the current leadership were very clear.
