The state coordinator of the National Progressive Youths for Peace and Development (NPYPD), Osun state chapter, Revr. Majekodunmi Ayodeji has appealed to traditional Rulers in the state to warn all agents of PDP/Accord party amongst their high chiefs and those who have been financially induced to discredit aspirants and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in their various palace.
Reverend Majekodunmi said verifiable reports have been gathered that a budget has been created by the Ademola Adeleke led-Accord administration to mobilize former PDP leaders and executive members that had become high chiefs, religious scholars and few personalities closed to the palace of traditional Rulers to use the opportunity of their closeness to discredit APC candidate and aspirants, having been financially induced to look as if it were the opinions of the traditional Rulers.
He explained that it is barbaric for the state government and other frivolous elements for providing financial incentives to former PDP executive members that are now traditional title holders and those closed to the palace to make discrediting statements against APC candidate and aspirants, this as contained in a statement issued and jointly signed the state coordinator and Director of Media and Publicity of the NPYPD, Mr. Oladiji Sahid, and made available to Journalists on Sunday in Osogbo the state capital.
NPYPD frowns at governor Ademola Adeleke for using financial inducement to manipulate traditional and religious institutions for political gains, urging them to remain neutral, sacred, and above partisan politics, charging traditional Rulers to let go of any high chiefs, palace staffs and others that may want to involve in partisan politics rather than hiding under the cover of traditional authority to make reckless political statements, so as not to drag the names of traditional rulers into the mud of the politics in their various communitiess.
According to the release, "a call has been made for traditional leaders to prioritize national unity over pecuniary interests and to maintain the integrity of their positions as either high chiefs or palace staffs who engage in partisan politics or promote division may be held accountable if electoral violence occurs".
Revr. Majekodunmi enjoined traditional Rulers in Osun to advise their chiefs, staff members and those closed to their palace to remain neutral in their utterances and to serve as a symbol of unity and preserve the integrity of the exalted palace rather than risk diminishing their relevance as a result of their political involvement.
NPYPD therefore urged political leaders and meaningful stakeholders in Osun APC to focus on unity of the party and do anything humanly possible to avoid presenting unpopular and dented candidates, which could give the opposition an advantage in the forthcoming elections, adding that PDP/ACCORD agents plot in the palace of traditional rulers and religious bodies would never want APC leaders to present viable and very popular candidates no matter what.
