The Ataoja of Osogboland, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II, on Monday formally received a ₦20,000,000 relief cheque from Senator Fadeyi Olubiyi Ajagunla in support of victims affected by the recent rainstorm in Osogbo.
The presentation, held at the Ataoja’s palace, marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to alleviate the hardship faced by residents impacted by the natural disaster.
It will be recalled that, in response to the devastating rainstorm that affected several parts of Osogbo, the Ataoja of Osogboland constituted a five-member relief assessment committee. The committee, chaired by Justice Moshud Adekunle Adeigbe, was tasked with evaluating the extent of damage, engaging directly with affected residents, and documenting their immediate needs.
Following weeks of assessment and engagement, the intervention received a major boost as Senator Ajagunla, through his representative, Hon. Akin Titiloye, presented the ₦20 million cheque to support relief efforts.
Speaking during the presentation, Hon. Titiloye conveyed the Senator’s heartfelt condolences to families who lost loved ones and properties during the rainstorm. He emphasized that Senator Ajagunla deeply empathizes with the victims and is committed to providing meaningful support during this challenging time.
He noted that the relief fund was entrusted to the Ataoja and the committee with confidence in their integrity and capacity to ensure fair and transparent distribution to those most affected. He further reaffirmed the Senator’s commitment to effective representation of his constituency in the National Assembly.
In his remarks, Oba Olanipekun Larooye II expressed profound appreciation for the Senator’s timely and generous intervention. He commended Senator Ajagunla for his consistent contributions to the development of Osogbo and described the gesture as a reflection of responsive and compassionate leadership. The monarch also pledged continued support for initiatives that promote the welfare of the people.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Relief Committee, Justice Adeigbe, lauded the Senator for remembering the victims during their time of need. He assured all stakeholders that the committee would ensure the funds are judiciously utilized and strictly monitored to achieve their intended purpose of alleviating the suffering of affected residents.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including aides to Senator Ajagunla and notable community figures such as Hon. Ogundere Success, Hon. Engr. Falokun Sola, Alhaji Samad Adeyemi, Rev. Akin Ayoade, Hon. Sunday Oyedele, Hon. Oluwafadekemi Adenle, and Hon. Ajiboye Temidayo, among others.
