.... Community Project to Preserve Legacies of Osun’s Distinguished Personalities and Promote Community Development
The Brave Women Progressive Association has announced plans to construct two modern bus-stop facilities in Osun State as part of its community development initiative aimed at honouring the memories and legacies of the late Mrs. Nnenna Esther Adeleke and the late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, the first civilian Governor of Osun State.
The two community projects, according to the association, will be located in Osogbo and Ede, respectively, and are designed to serve both as functional public facilities and enduring memorials to the two personalities whose contributions and lives, the association said, continue to inspire members of the community.
Speaking during a programme organised by the Brave Women Progressive Association to unveil the proposed projects to the public, the President of the association, Evang. Matilda Farinde, said the initiative was conceived as a way of preserving the legacies of people who made significant contributions to humanity and the development of society.
Farinde described the late Mrs. Nnenna Esther Adeleke as a devoted and courageous woman whose life and dedication to her family and community deserved to be remembered and celebrated.
According to her, Mrs. Adeleke was the mother of the late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke and Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, and played an important role in raising and nurturing her children.
She said the proposed bus-stop project in her memory was not only intended to honour her but also to inspire women to understand the importance of raising and supporting their children, noting that the future achievements of children cannot always be predicted.
“Women should learn from her life and understand the importance of taking care of their children. Nobody knows what a child can become in the future. With proper care, guidance and support, children can grow to make meaningful contributions to society,” Farinde said.
The association also disclosed that the second bus-stop project would be dedicated to the memory of the late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, popularly associated with the title Serubawon, who served as the first civilian Governor of Osun State.
Farinde said Senator Adeleke made tremendous contributions to the progress and development of Osun State during his lifetime, adding that the association considered it important to preserve his memory through a project that would have a direct benefit to members of the public.
She explained that the choice of bus-stop construction was deliberate, as the facilities would provide practical benefits to residents and commuters while simultaneously serving as lasting reminders of the individuals being honoured.
The association president appealed to individuals, corporate organisations, community leaders and the government to support the initiative, stressing that the Brave Women Progressive Association had been undertaking its activities largely through its own efforts.
According to her, additional support would enable the organisation to expand its community intervention programmes and undertake more projects capable of improving the lives of people across different communities.
Farinde reiterated the association's commitment to contributing positively to society, saying the organisation would continue to identify areas where it could make meaningful interventions.
Speaking at the unveiling programme, HRH Oba Akinpelu Soludero commended Evang. Matilda Farinde and the Brave Women Progressive Association for their continued commitment to community development and service to humanity.
The traditional ruler described Farinde as a woman who consistently demonstrates concern for the welfare and progress of people around her.
He expressed appreciation to God for preserving her life and enabling her to continue making contributions to society, noting that her impact could be seen through the testimonies of people who had benefited from her activities.
Oba Soludero said he was also among those who had benefited from Farinde's support and acknowledged the positive impact of her efforts on members of the community.
He therefore called on individuals, corporate organisations and government at various levels to support the Brave Women Progressive Association and its community development initiatives.
The monarch said the association, under the leadership of Farinde, had demonstrated a willingness to reach different communities and address issues affecting ordinary people.
He encouraged more stakeholders to identify with the initiative, stressing that collective support would enable the association to achieve more in its efforts to contribute to societal development.
The Association said the proposed bus-stop projects represent part of its broader commitment to community service, women empowerment and the preservation of the memories of individuals who have contributed to society.
The association maintained that the projects would provide practical infrastructure for residents while also ensuring that the legacies of Mrs. Nnenna Esther Adeleke and Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke remain visible within the communities.
The organisation appealed to members of the public, philanthropists, businesses, community leaders and government institutions to support the projects through financial, material and institutional assistance.
The association expressed confidence that with the support of stakeholders, the two bus-stop projects in Osogbo and Ede would be completed and become lasting symbols of remembrance, service and community development.
The Brave Women Progressive Association further reaffirmed its readiness to undertake more initiatives that would positively impact communities and improve the welfare of residents across Osun State.
