Peter Obi’s Convoy Reportedly Attacked In Benue By Suspected Political Thugs

The incident comes shortly after Obi visited parts of Benue State during a wider political tour across Kogi, Benue and Enugu states.

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi’s convoy was reportedly attacked by suspected political thugs on the Airport-Boko Road on Tuesday, with the attackers allegedly warning the former Anambra State governor against entering Benue State.
A post claimed that the incident occurred as Obi travelled towards Benue, alleging that the attackers were politically sponsored and had insisted that he must not enter the state. 

The report also called on the Federal and Benue State governments to intervene, arguing that political leaders and their supporters should be allowed to move freely and participate in political activities without intimidation.
The incident comes shortly after Obi visited parts of Benue State during a wider political tour across Kogi, Benue and Enugu states. He had stopped in Otukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area, where he interacted with residents and traders along the route.
During the visit, Obi said residents raised concerns over insecurity, unemployment, healthcare and education. He also urged supporters to participate actively in the democratic process and protect their votes ahead of the 2027 elections.

The alleged attack also comes amid heightened security concerns in Benue, where several communities have suffered killings, abductions and destruction of property in recent months.

Obi has previously condemned the violence in the state and called on governments to strengthen security measures and protect vulnerable communities.

In August, Obi described the attacks in Benue, Plateau and Niger states as a national security emergency and urged authorities to improve intelligence gathering, strengthen rapid-response measures and prosecute those responsible for attacks.
The latest allegation is likely to raise fresh concerns about political violence and freedom of movement ahead of the 2027 general elections. 
Security agencies are expected to clarify what happened on the Airport-Boko Road and determine whether any individuals were involved in an attempt to prevent Obi from entering Benue State.
