A Catholic priest, Fr. Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari, has d!ed after a massive crucifix fell on his heād while he was celebrating Mass at the Perpetuo Socorro (Our Lady of Perpetual Help) Church in Ecuador on Saturday, October 17.
The tragic incident was witnessed by worshippers inside the church and thousands of viewers watching the service via livestream.
Footage of the incident showed the large crucifix leaning away from the wall before crashing down on the altar where the priest was standing, approximately 27 minutes into the ceremony.
Despite the swift arrival of emergency responders, Fr. Sánchez Molinari succumbed to his injur!es.
The Archdiocese of Guayaquil confirmed his deāth in an official statement, expressing condolences to the priest’s family, friends and the Redemptorist community.
