The Osun State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointments of AIG Wale Abbas and Hon. Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele as the Board Chairman and Corps Commander of the Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps.
The House of Assembly confirmed Wale Abbas, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, as the Board Chairman of the Amotekun Corps while it also confirmed Hon. Dr Adekunle Omoyele as the Corps Commander.
The governor had forwarded the names of his nominees to the state House of Assembly for the necessary legislative approval.
The confirmations came after the nominees were screened by the lawmakers on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
The screening process allowed the House to assess the qualifications and suitability of AIG Wale Abbas and Dr.
Adekunle Omoyele for their respective roles.
Speaking after the confirmation, the speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun congratulated the new appointees, saying, "The state is lucky to have the integrity people in the affairs of Amotekun in Osun.
"I urge both of you to leverage your wealth of experience to enhance security across the state.
"I urge you to foster strong working relationships with other security agencies, to make Osun State a safer place."
Speaking with journalists after the confirmations, the Board Chairman of Osun Amotekun Corps, AIG Wale Abbas, pledged to work closely with all stakeholders in the state to combat crime and ensure the security of lives and property, where the people of the state can sleep with their eyes closed.
The Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Hon. Dr Adekunle Isaac Omoyele assured the residents of the Osun of maximum security of lives and property.
In the same vain, the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Dr. Adekunle Omoyele after his confirmation from the Osun State House of Assembly attended the MTSS seminar organized by the Ministry of Justice on the improvement of the rule of law and human rights protection and improved judicial system and quick delivery of Justice achieved.
Omoyele urged the judiciary to immediately rule on criminal cases to stop decongested inmates in correctional centers. He said there should be a policy review from the Ministry of Justice that makes the suspects awaiting trial for a long time without a final verdict which has made the correctional centres decongested.
