The Osun State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, has dismissed claims by the All Progressives Congress, APC, about the state of education in Osun as “fake news.”
The board described the allegations as misleading and unsubstantiated.
SUBEB’s rebuttal is coming as a response to statements suggesting a decline in education infrastructure and performance under the current administration.
According to Alesinloye Kamoru, Special Adviser to the SUBEB Chairman, in a statement on Monday, these assertions do not reflect the reality on the ground.
“The APC administration neglected education by failing to provide counterpart funding for two years, which led to dilapidated schools, inadequate teacher training, and a shortage of educational materials,” Kamoru stated.
He further explained that the current administration, within just two years, had committed more resources to education than the previous government did in four years.
“We have accessed grants to cover the backlog left by the APC government and have invested in building and renovating schools,” he said.
“The government’s efforts have resulted in the construction of 77 new schools and the renovation of 78 others.
“Over 10,000 pieces of furniture have also been distributed to schools, benefiting both students and teachers across the state.
“Additionally, SUBEB has established a database for schools and equipped many with computers to modernise the learning environment.
“These interventions have led to improved academic outcomes and better extracurricular achievements.
“Osun students are now excelling in sports, debates, and quiz competitions, which is a testament to our dedication to quality education,” Kamoru noted.
He emphasised that these successes were achieved despite the financial constraints faced by the current administration.
“Our commitment to education remains unwavering, and the results are evident for all to see,” he added.
SUBEB called on the public to disregard the APC’s claims and instead focus on the progress being made in the education sector.
The board assured stakeholders that the administration would continue prioritising education reforms.
The government reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, urging critics to verify the facts before spreading false information.
