In Osogbo, where electricity supply remains inconsistent, families and business owners struggle with daily power outages. Many rely on expensive fuel generators, while others endure darkness or unsafe alternatives like kerosene lamps.
Sun King’s Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) solar system is providing a sustainable solution, allowing people to access reliable electricity through small, manageable payments.

Sulaiman Kaamil Sulaimon, 38 years old, a father of 3 kids, lamented on the life before switching to Sun King, the family struggled with frequent blackouts. They relied on candles and kerosene lamps, which were dim, expensive, and dangerous. Smoke from the lamps irritated their children’s eyes, and studying at night was difficult.
The Man said: “Before Sun King, my children would strain their eyes trying to read with candlelight, and sometimes, they would give up because it wasn’t bright enough. Now, they can do their homework comfortably, and our home feels safer without open flames. Even when there’s no electricity in the neighborhood, we always have light.”

The family also noted a reduction in household expenses. The money they used to spend on kerosene and batteries now goes toward other necessities.
“We were spending so much on kerosene every month, and yet the house was still dark most of the time. With this solar system, we have better light, and it’s actually saving us money in the long run.

Also, A Shop Owner Growing Her Business, Mrs. Olaniyi who runs a small provisions store in Osogbo. Before she got Sun King’s solar system, she had to close her shop early when it got dark, losing out on evening sales. She considered buying a generator but was discouraged by the cost of fuel and maintenance.

“Every time I saw customers going to another shop because mine was dark, it pained me. I knew I was losing money, but I couldn’t afford a generator and the daily fuel it needed. Now, with my solar light, I keep my shop open later, and my sales have increased.”
She also shared that her store now attracts more customers in the evenings, as people prefer to shop in a well-lit environment.
“Before, people would rush in and out because the shop was dark, but now, they take their time to pick what they need. I even added a small fridge to sell cold drinks because I have steady power.”

“I had customers waiting for their clothes, but I couldn’t sew because there was no electricity. Sometimes, I would rush to a generator-powered shop to finish a job, and the cost of fuel would eat into my profit. It was frustrating.”
Since switching to Sun King, she no longer has to worry about power outages.

“Now, I can work anytime I want. My customers get their clothes on time, and I don’t have to waste money on fuel. Even when the whole street is in darkness, my shop is shining, and people know I’m still open for business.”
She also pointed out that the money she was spending on fuel each month was much higher than his Sun King payment.
“The funny thing is, I was already spending more money on generator fuel than what I pay for this solar system. And now, I don’t have to deal with noise or smoke.”
A Sun King installer in Osogbo, Gbadebo Ridwan, explains how customers can easily acquire the system.
“Getting a Sun King system is very simple. Once a customer makes the first payment, we install the system immediately. It doesn’t require paperwork like bank loans or electricity meter registration. Anyone can afford it because they pay little by little.”

“People are realizing that this is cheaper than buying a generator. Once they see their neighbors using it, they want one too. That’s why I install new systems every week.”
“Our goal is to bring affordable and clean energy to everyone. Many people in Nigeria struggle with power supply, and we want to change that. This PAYG model allows people to have electricity without needing a big upfront payment, making it accessible to more people.”
He also notes the growing adoption of solar power in Osogbo.
“We are seeing more families and businesses switching to solar. People are realizing they don’t have to depend on the government’s power supply or spend all their money on fuel. This is the future.”
Sun King’s Pay-As-You-Go solar power is not just providing electricity—it’s transforming lives. From homes where children can now study at night to businesses that no longer lose money to power outages, the impact is clear.
