YOU HAVE TRIED YOUR BEST GOVERNOR ADELEK, GO HOME AND DANCE, by Sulaimon Abiola Àrósò
Rauf Aregbesola was once in the same situation that Governor Demola Adeleke finds himself in today. But Aregbesola stood his ground. He defied the federal government led by Jonathan and Namadi Sambo. He placed unwavering faith in his popularity (yes, he was actually popular) and banked on the multiplying effect of the 20,000 OYES cadets, representing 20,000 households. Even when the civil servants refused to support him because of unpaid salaries, he threw the middle finger at them. He faced the full force of the federal security apparatus in the most militarized election in Osun’s history. And against all odds, he won. That was in 2014.
Aregbesola did what he knew best, politicking. Only God knows what he used to sway every former governor, including Governor Demola Adeleke's late elder brother, the highly respected Isiaka Adeleke, and former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola. Till today, Oyinlola cannot explain why he abandoned the PDP at that crucial moment to support Aregbesola.
Now, Governor Demola Adeleke faces a similar political storm, but unlike Aregbesola, he is floundering. Instead of standing firm, he runs in circles, unsure of his next move. Throw in the towel and stop running helter-skelter, Mr Governor. Tender your resignation if you think the heat is too much. Or better still bank on the teachers employed by the past administration that you used executive order to sack, or the health workers (pharmacist, Nurses and Doctors) that you sent back home due to your politics of vendetta. It's the end of the road, Mr Governor. Never in the history of a ruling party has a sitting Governor lost as many loyalists.
O gbe adiẹ ta, o f'owo rawo. Replacing Oluwole Oke-BOO (The Political Lord of Oriade/Obòkun), Kayode Oduoye, Baba Shuaib Oyedokun, Prince Dọtun Babayemi, Elder Peter Babalola and many other big wigs with social media miscreants with nothing to their name other than Glo Data and maybe a London Used iPhone is a political suicide that Davido's excursion to Aso Rock will not be able to revert.
Use the remaining energy to start the handover note on time, Mr Governor. So you'll be able to tighten all the loose ends. Perfect all that's needed to be perfected, because the anti-graft agencies must certify your four years of maladministration. Those bogus projects and their overpricing must be looked into. The people of Osun need to know how much we earned from FAAC in total and how much was spent on their behalf, where did the remaining go?
You've tried your best. Go home and dance. This period of ostentation needs an experienced manager as Governor.
