APC Diaspora Committee Chairmen Mourn the Passing of Former President Muhammadu Buhari and Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona

The All Progressives Congress Diaspora Committee (APC-DC), under the distinguished leadership of Hon. Tunde Doherty, has expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, and the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, following their passing on Sunday.

In a solemn statement issued to the press in Abuja, the Secretary-General of the APC Diaspora Committee and APC Spain Chairman, Amb. Adeayo Tella, described the deaths of these two national icons as a profound loss not only to their immediate families and communities but to the nation as a whole.

Ambassador Tella stated:

> “The news of the passing of President Muhammadu Buhari and Oba Sikiru Adetona came as a painful shock to us all. At a time when Nigeria stands in need of seasoned statesmanship, moral leadership, and wise counsel, we have lost two of the most revered figures in our nation's history. President Buhari, throughout his military and civilian leadership, served the country with commitment, discipline, and an unwavering belief in national unity. His legacy of service, particularly his fight against corruption and his efforts to restore Nigeria’s global standing, will remain a lasting blueprint for future generations.”

Speaking further, he continued:

> “The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, was a pillar of traditional leadership and one of the most respected monarchs in the history of modern Nigeria. His reign spanned decades of cultural renaissance, peacebuilding, and the elevation of the Ijebu people on the global stage. His wisdom, humility, and progressive outlook endeared him not just to the people of Ogun State, but to Nigerians across all walks of life.”

Hon. Tunde Doherty, on behalf of APC leaders in the diaspora, conveyed his deepest sympathy to the Buhari and Adetona families, urging them to take solace in the remarkable lives and enduring legacies of the departed. He also called on all Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to reflect on the contributions of these leaders and to honor their memory through a renewed commitment to national unity and service.

The APC Diaspora Committee affirmed its continued support to the families during this difficult time and offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the souls of both President Muhammadu Buhari and HRM Oba Sikiru Adetona.
