As the grand finally of the globally renowned Osun Osogbo Festival draws near, prominent traditional leader and community elder, Chief Osunyemi IFARINU IFABODE, the Baba Oosa of Osogboland, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Ataoja of Osogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II, as well as to Osun devotees and the multitude of guests, both local and international, who are expected to participate in the annual celebration.
Speaking today in Osogbo during a press briefing on behalf of the Ataoja-in-Council, Chief Osunyemi highlighted the spiritual and cultural significance of the Osun Osogbo Festival, which has continued to be a beacon of Yoruba tradition, a global tourist attraction, and a symbol of unity, peace, and cultural pride.
“We congratulate our father, Kabiyesi Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II, for his continuous leadership and custodianship of our cherished cultural heritage. We also felicitate with all Osun worshippers and our brothers and sisters from across Nigeria and the diaspora who are journeying to Osogbo to witness and participate in this sacred festival,” Chief Osunyemi stated.
However, while celebrating the festival’s cultural and religious importance, Chief Osunyemi issued a stern warning to those who may attempt to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere or use the occasion as an opportunity for criminal activity.
“Let it be clear: the Osun Osogbo Festival is a sacred event, deeply rooted in tradition and spirituality. We will not tolerate any form of lawlessness. Those who intend to cause unrest, engage in fighting, theft, or pickpocketing should steer clear. Security operatives, traditional guards, and community vigilantes will be fully mobilized to protect lives and property throughout the festivities,” he warned.
Chief Osunyemi emphasized that the festival is a time of reverence, thanksgiving, and joyful celebration of Osun, the revered river goddess. As such, attendees are urged to uphold the values of peace, mutual respect, and cultural dignity throughout the celebration.
The Osun Osogbo Festival, a UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage event, continues to attract thousands of worshippers, tourists, and culture enthusiasts from around the world. With its rich blend of spirituality, tradition, music, dance, and communal unity, it remains one of Africa’s most iconic cultural gatherings.
