Legacy FM, a private radio station in Ebonyi State, has lifted the suspension of its Acting General Manager, Odoh Godfrey Chikwere, following a brief disciplinary action.
The station’s management announced on Monday evening that Chikwere has been directed to resume duties effective Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
Chikwere was initially suspended on Saturday, August 9, 2025, over alleged criticisms of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration. Reports indicated that his remarks, shared both on-air and via social media on Friday, August 8, were viewed as controversial by station authorities.
In its original suspension notice, Legacy FM cited Chikwere’s “unruly behaviour” and violation of the station’s code of conduct as grounds for the disciplinary measure.
“The management of Legacy FM 95.1, The Sound of Now, hereby suspends the acting General Manager, Godfrey Chikwere, with immediate effect, till further notice,” the statement read. “This is due to unruly behaviour and disobedience to the code of conduct guiding Legacy FM.”
Prior to his suspension, Chikwere had posted a critical message on Facebook, alleging that the state government was grappling with poor communication, ineffective appointees, and a lack of policy clarity. He urged Governor Nwifuru to take firmer action, warning that public support was weakening.
In response, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, dismissed the claims as baseless. Uzor also criticized Chikwere for what he described as ingratitude, highlighting the government’s support for the station, including the donation of a vehicle, provision of a transformer, and road construction leading to the premises.
Despite the tensions, Legacy FM’s management has now reversed its decision, allowing Chikwere to return to his role.
