Lexus SUV Driver Flees After Fatal Collision with Tricycle in Anambra


A fatal road accident occurred on Saturday morning near People’s Club by Limca Road in Obosi, close to Onitsha, when a Lexus SUV collided with two commercial tricycles, locally known as Keke. The impact resulted in the immediate death of one passenger, while others sustained various degrees of injury.

According to the Anambra State Police Command, the driver of the Lexus SUV and other occupants fled the scene shortly after the incident, abandoning the vehicle.

Police operatives from the Isiowulu Division responded swiftly, securing the area, recovering the abandoned SUV, and facilitating the evacuation of victims. The deceased has been taken to the morgue, while the injured are receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

A statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the tragic incident and outlined the steps taken by law enforcement to prevent further unrest in the area.

"The accident occurred in the early hours of today, 16th August 2025, involving a Lexus Jeep and two tricycles. Preliminary investigations suggest that the SUV rammed into the tricycles, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The driver and occupants of the vehicle fled the scene, abandoning the car," the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident and urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as they work to identify and apprehend those responsible.
