The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 52-year-old woman, Muyibat Mumuni, and her 25-year-old son, Faruk Mumuni, in Lagos for allegedly storing and distributing a large quantity of illicit drugs.
According to a statement released by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Sunday, August 17, the duo was arrested on Wednesday, August 13, during a raid on their residence on Ladega Street in the Mushin area of Lagos. During the operation, officers discovered 298 blocks of “Ghana Loud” cannabis, weighing a total of 149 kilograms.
In a separate operation two days later, on Friday, August 15, NDLEA operatives in the Ajah area of Lekki arrested Emmanuel Samuel following the discovery of 8.5 kilograms of “Canadian Loud,” another premium strain of cannabis, in his apartment.
These arrests form part of a nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking and distribution carried out by the NDLEA over the past week, resulting in multiple arrests and substantial seizures across several states.

Gombe State: On Monday, August 11, 32-year-old Sani Mohammed was arrested in the Jauro Jatau area with 128,000 capsules of tramadol.

Kogi State: Along the Okene-Lokoja highway, NDLEA officers intercepted a commercial bus driven by 47-year-old Sulaiman Oyedokun. A search revealed 337,800 capsules of tramadol hidden in the vehicle. The drugs were reportedly en route from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Kontagora, Niger State.

Taraba State: In collaboration with local security groups, NDLEA raided Tanmiya Forest in Sardauna LGA on Tuesday, August 12, destroying 4.5 hectares of cannabis farms estimated to yield 11,250kg. Later, on Saturday, August 16, 29,840 capsules of tramadol were recovered from 20-year-old Saleh Babangida at a checkpoint in Wukari.

Kaduna State: Four suspects were arrested in separate incidents. At checkpoints in Zaria and Tudun Wada, Mohammed Amdife (46) and Sulaiman Mohammed (22) were caught with 22,640 pills of tramadol and rohypnol. Additionally, Caroline David (51) and Abdulhadi Umar (30) were arrested with 111.1kg of cannabis along the Zaria-Kano road.

Edo State: On August 13, officers recovered 432kg of cannabis stored in 24 bags in a bush near the Warake-Auchi road in Etsako West LGA. The following day, 130kg was seized from a warehouse in Sobe, Owan West LGA.

Kano State: Two individuals were arrested in separate drug busts. Tahiru Madu Manga (25) was found with 16kg of cannabis on the Zaria-Kano Road, while Ibrahim Audu (47) was arrested with 76kg in Gadar Tamburawa.

Lagos State: At the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Lagos expressway, NDLEA officers intercepted 4,320 ampoules of ketamine on Monday, August 11. A suspect, Akeem Adegun, was arrested at the scene.
The NDLEA says these operations highlight its ongoing efforts to disrupt the supply and distribution networks of illicit drugs across Nigeria.
