In a candid revelation, Aderonke disclosed that Lekan Olatunji has not only been a guiding figure in her career but also a stabilizing influence in her personal life. “When I started in Nollywood, I was still very young and, I must say, quite attractive. Many men in the industry tried to ‘toast’ me,” Aderonke said. “But my boss, Mr. Lekan Olatunji, would always advise me against jumping into relationships without understanding people’s intentions. He warned me that many of them were only interested in using me, and he encouraged me to prioritize my goals and values.”
According to Aderonke, Mr. Olatunji consistently encouraged her to remain focused, calm, and patient, especially during moments of frustration or emotional stress.
“I’m someone who used to get angry easily, but he always tried to calm me down,” she said. “He told me to be patient, to think things through, and to always stay true to myself — even when under pressure.”
As a protective measure, Aderonke began telling persistent suitors that she was in a relationship with Lekan Olatunji, using his name to ward off unwanted attention.
“Whenever any man came to toast me, I would just tell them, ‘I’m dating Lekan Olatunji.’ It was my way of creating a boundary — out of respect for myself and for the advice he gave me.”
However, this tactic eventually led to an unexpected phone call from Mr. Olatunji’s wife, who politely but firmly addressed the matter.
“His wife called me one day and said, ‘You don’t have to use my husband’s name to scare men away. Be bold enough to speak your mind.’ She was right, and I respect her a lot for the way she handled it.”
Aderonke emphasized that there was never any romantic involvement between her and Lekan Olatunji, but rather a deep professional and mentor-mentee relationship rooted in trust and respect.
“Mr. Olatunji has always been like a big brother and a father figure to me. I owe a lot of my discipline and survival in this industry to the things he taught me. I’m grateful for his guidance.”
