On Monday, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, under the platform of the Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP, were reported to have warned that the party’s forthcoming national convention in November would be invalid if their resolutions were not implemented.
According to The Punch, the warning came after a meeting that lasted nearly three hours, at the end of which a communiqué was issued and read by former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
Ortom was said to have emphasized the group’s collective commitment to the principles of equity, justice, inclusivity, and the rule of law, which he described as the core values upon which the PDP was founded and on which its survival depended.
Among the group’s demands, Wike’s camp reportedly stated that while they were satisfied with the zoning arrangements adopted by the National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Working Committee must ensure that no form of micro-zoning was introduced, in the interest of peace and stability within the party.
They also insisted that the national chairmanship position should remain in the North-Central, in line with the zoning formula adopted at the 2021 convention.
According to The Punch, the Publicity Secretary of the Oyo State chapter of the PDP, Micheal Ogunsina, was reported to have aligned himself with the position of the party’s national secretariat, stating that the convention would decide the fate of Nyesom Wike and his loyalists.
Ogunsina was said to have described the convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, as a “done deal,” insisting that no force could prevent it from holding.
He said, “The Peoples Democratic Party has dared Nyesom Wike to do what he can do. There is no forever champion anywhere. How did those before him end ? The November 15 and 16 convention in Ibadan is a done deal. No force can stop it.
“New leaders will emerge from the convention to set the party on the right footing; all satanic infiltrations will be sent packing, and Peoples Democratic Party will be set free.”
