The police from the Zone XI Police Zonal Command, Osogbo have arrested one Mr. Aderanto Jeremiah Oluwapelumi over allegations bordering on impersonation, fraud, and other related criminal activities after repeatedly resisting arrest despite all efforts by both the police and the community.
According to eyewitness who prefers to remain anonymous, the suspect was apprehended following intelligence reports and complaints alleging that he had been parading himself as a legal practitioner as well as a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Osun State without lawful authorization.
Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly used the false identities to deceive unsuspecting members of the public, gain undue influence, and allegedly carry out fraudulent activities under the guise of government affiliation and legal representation.
The eyewitness disclosed that the suspect was also being investigated for other criminal acts allegedly connected to obtaining money under false pretence, criminal misrepresentation, and conduct capable of causing breach of public trust and confidence in government institutions.
The arrest, which was carried out by officers attached to the Zone XI Police Command headquarters in Osogbo, forms part of the command’s renewed effort to clamp down on impersonators, fraudsters, and individuals engaging in criminal activities across the zone.
Speaking on the development, a police source reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring that individuals who impersonate public officials and professionals are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue, after which he is expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of findings.
Members of the public have also been advised to remain vigilant and verify the identity and official status of individuals claiming to represent government offices or professional bodies before engaging in any transaction with them.
